Interview, in premiere, with the upcoming band E'Sha μμ€ - A soul's melody
The other day, as I was working on a new poem, while losing myself within the melancholy of gayageum's sound, I had the honor of meeting miss Ea, an amazing vocalist, composer and lyricist, and through her kindness, I learned about her alternative/melodic rock project E'Sha Band, with deep origins in the mesmerizing town of Bucheon, South Korea.
More than surprised I've been when, spellbound by her ethereal vocals, I've found myself listening to her songs again and again.
Shining in the cosmic void created by the guitar dark yet gentle riffs, impeccably handled by her colleague, Ash, waltzing under the spell of the keyboards and awakening the doe of spiritual self-healing, miss Ea is showing us all, once again, that South Korea has got a powerful rock/metal scene, full of passion and skilled musicians.
Truth is, for quiet a while I've been studying the metal scene of the Korean land, but up to this point, I haven't hear anything quite similar to E'Sha Band. Therefore, I've took a chance and invited miss Ea and Ash for a very pleasant interview, in premiere, about them as artists, and their amazing alternative rock band.
Ipsissima verba - Shadows : Greetings. I am more than pleased to have you here, for this special interview. How do you feel? I would like to know some details about you, as a band, as well as about each one of you. How did you decide to set up this project? And how did you choose the name of the project?
E'Sha Band - Ea : The band, which was formed in 2019, with me as vocalist and leader of the band. Then, we've set up a public recruitment, in order to find more members. Then E'Sha band was born, from the hearts of musicians who are rock & metal genre lovers, in order to pursue and perform an alternative sound that combines both rock and metal.
Well, the name means "Eternal Shine Hoping Aura".
E'Sha Band - Ash : I accidentally learned about Ea's recruiting members, so I've joined the team because I wanted to hear her voice and be a part of her team.
Honestly, I can't say we've got any specific genre, I think E'Sha has its own genre.
Shadows : Honestly, since I discovered your project, I couldn't stop listening. The influences of alternative riffs on guitars, fresh drums, in contrast to the amazing vocal timbre of Ea, what can I say, a very successful combination between the tenderness of a young voice and the elegant rhythm of the lyrics. Tell me more about the creative process. 
Ea : Sometimes when I'm lost in thoughts, I can feel how inspiration its filling my heart. When such inspiration comes to mind, I try to express it on the keyboard, and from just a thought, a sound, it often becomes a composition. Sometimes its is done quite early, otherwise it may take a long time.
Then, I share what I've wrote with my colleagues, we discuss what musical arrangements can be done in order to complete the composition, then we finish writing the song based on each one's influence and individual artistic view.
Ash : All of the songs so far have come from Ea's compositions. And as I listen to what she has wrote on the keyboard, I write the guitars and help her with the sound arrangements. But I'm also writing songs so you can expect new material very soon.
Shadows : I must admit, together, you have a special charm. At the same time, in which Ea's voice produces a warm wave of melancholy, the lyrics awaken me to reality. Who writes the lyrics, and what is the inspiration behind them?
Ea : Well, When I write a song, while composing, its based on what I feel. Rather than a boring love story, I want to give it a fresh feeling. I try to write truthful lyrics based on my experiences and feelings.
Ash : I agree.
Shadows : The quality of your sound it's amazing. So, I'm really curious, what set-up do you have in the studio? What instruments / sound programs do you use?
Ea : I'm so glad you thought it sounded good!
To be honest, we are making our own productions without any support from agencies or sponsors. So I don't go to the studio because it's expensive. haha >< My own house! I have a small studio in my room. Affordable condenser microphones, speakers, computers, MIDI keyboards, Yamaha audio interface received from a fan, one electric guitar, that's all.
Ash : Each of us has its own established "workplace". As for set-up, I personally use Esp Eclipse2 and Ibaneze Jam models. And we're working on it all using a Cubase11.
Shadows : You are a relatively new band in the rock scene of South Korea, and you have a huge potential. Tell me, what does everyday life look like to you, as new rock stars?
Ea/ Ash : Thank you for such a good rating. It's a new band, but we're happy and thankful that it's getting attention.
In fact, rock music is not a very popular genre in South Korea. Most Korean rock bands worry about their income, work part-time, and have a hard time maintaining their music life. And we're are not that different, from stage to a regular day.
Moreover, although it is true that there are many disruptions to musical activities due to the corona pandemic, but we are continuing our creative activities. Whatever the situation, we will always have art in our minds, and we will always keep on with our creative activities.
Shadows : I know it's a difficult subject, but how did you cope with the situations caused by the pandemic, lockdown, general hysteria?
Ea/ Ash : Well, we are following the rules set by the state. Wearing a mask, and thorough personal hygiene.
Shadows : Although we are nearing the end of the interview, if you will allow me, I would like to ask you a few more questions. For example, can we, your fans, hope for new songs soon? Are you working on an album?
Ea : Of course. How will the next song be presented to the fans? I am troubled and troubled again.
Ash : As I said earlier, activities for new creations do not stop, and of course, new songs are also being worked on.
Ea: "Tonight Alive" ,"Against the Current", "Fireflight", "One ok Rock", "Skallet Riot" ,"X-Japan". If we could stand together on stage, it would be like a dream.
Ash : I love and listen to many bands of various genres, including "Tonight Alive", "Metallica", "the Used", "Dir en grey" etc. I would be very honored if any of them would play with us on the same stage.
Shadows : Well, although I have reached the end, I was very pleased, and I want to thank you for the honour of taking your first interview. In conclusion, would you like to add a few words for friends, family, fans ...?
Ea : I also think this interview was a fun experience. I'm really happy .
